New chimney crown…

09 Tuesday Apr 2019

A chimney crown was added, as well as a drip edge, or drip cap on the chimney. You can see a drip edge shadow near the top of both chimneys in the old photo. This detail was typical of the time period; this one is rather simple with one course for the drip edge. Referencing the historic photo (below), we recreated details of the stone cap as much as possible. In the MLS photo from 1996, the crown and cap appear to missing; so they have been gone for quite a while.IMG_0759AS Mason House MLS Photo from1996A-S_Mason_house_chimney cropIMG_0758

Old windows, and older windows….

Here you can see the original window sizes in the unpainted area where the window trim would have been. As the house was transformed from a dogtrot cabin (C. 1866) into a 2 story Victorian (Late 1800’s), taller windows were added; near 2:1 ratio as common in Victorian period homes. The front dogtrot doors were about 6″ shorter as seen in trim details of the door photo.

Reproduction novelty siding on front, sides, and rear of the original structure. The addition will have board and batten, much the same as the original kitchen addition.
